FAA Level 3- Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)- 1 Day
This one-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid course has been designed for those who have an interest in child and infant basic life support.
Description
The qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage. Learners who achieve this qualification will meet Ofsted requirements but it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that there is adequate cover for the establishment of both 2-day and 1-day qualified paediatric First Aid personnel.
If you have a professional interest, i.e. you are a child-minder or school teacher, etc, then this course partly fulfils the requirements of Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage require you to have 12 hours of paediatric first aid training, so the 2-Day Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid would be required to fulfil their requirements. This 6 hour qualification also makes up the first half of the 12-hour course.
Course Duration
A minimum of six hours makes up this qualification consisting of theoretical and practical work.
Syllabus, A range of subjects are covered including:
- Responsibilities and reporting
- Resuscitation
- Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
- Minor injuries
- Assessment of the situation
- Epilepsy
- Wounds and bleeding
- Anaphylaxia and Shock
Prerequisites
The qualification is available to learners aged 16 or over. Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands and learners must be able to demonstrate their skills as in a real-life situation. An example of this would be to demonstrate CPR on a manikin at floor level. It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification. It may be possible to allocate a reasonable adjustment to a learner who has a disability, medical condition or learning need; learners should contact their training provider to discuss. Any reasonable adjustments granted must be in line with the FAA Reasonable Adjustments Policy.
Certification
The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.
Assessment
The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and related oral questioning. A learner must successfully complete all practical demonstrations and correctly answer the oral questions to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred.
Practical assessment
Scenarios will be set to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. During the practical assessment, the learner will be asked related questions by the Trainer/Assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course but the Trainer/Assessor will make learners aware of when they are being assessed.
Reasonable Adjustments
We would like to re-assure our clients that our trainers are promoting a safe and hygienic environment in the training room when delivering training. This will include delegates regularly being asked to wipe their hands with alcohol based sanitiser. When carrying out CPR on the manikins the trainer has Alcohol wipes, trionic wipes and CPR Face shields as advised by our awarding body.
At present, the UK Government have made the provision that, during this period of strict lockdown, all learners should be able to access education. As the delivery of regulated qualifications falls under the description of “education”, our industry is able to continue operating – however it must do so under strict safety requirements.
